Jesus College Medical and Veterinary Society

History

MedSoc was started in the 1930s and has existed in various incarnations ever since. Some pictures of medics at Jesus from 1936 - 1939 are shown below (courtesy of Michael Meredith Brown).

Overview

Jesus College Medical and Veterinary Society provides academic, social and welfare support for medical & veterinary students of Jesus College, University of Cambridge.  We represent our members and promote the interests of medicine, both clinical and scientific, within Jesus College and thus the university as a whole. Membership is automatically granted to all Medical and Veterinary students of Jesus College upon matriculatiom, and any other members of the Jesus College Students Union are eligible to apply for membership through the commitee.

The society gives host to a wide variety of academic, social and welfare events throughout the academic year. This includes our renowned dinners and speaker events, where following a drinks reception, the society attends Formal Hall Dinner, followed in turn by a talk from a distinguished guest, typically a high profile medical professional or academic.  The society holds many other social events throughout the year.   A complete list of events planned for the upcoming academic year can be found on our Events page.

We also see ensuring the welfare of the Medical and Veterinary students as a vital role for the society.  To this end, the society organises a mentoring system for all members.  Details of this can be found on our Mentors page.

Medical and Veterinary students of the college also benefit from the societies excellent provision of academic resources in the Jesus College Medical and Veterinary Society Online Resource Bank, geared towards the Medical and Veterinary Sciences Tripos.  All members of the society are granted access to this resource bank.  For further details see our Resources page.

Our society seeks funding primarily from sponsors.  For information on sponsorship opportunities and the variety of ways we are able to benefit our sponsros please make contact with our treasurer, Richard Anderson (see our Committee & Contacts page for contact details).
